Period

1948–51

This 500 Mils banknote, issued by the Anglo-Palestine Bank Ltd., represents the first currency notes of the State of Israel. Printed in the United States by the American Bank Note Company (ABNC), these notes were commissioned in secrecy prior to the end of the British Mandate and released in 1948 following the Declaration of Independence to ensure monetary stability.

The note features the denomination in both English and Hebrew. It includes red serial number 128490 printed on the obverse, along with the printed signatures of Eliezer Hoofien, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Aharon Barth, General Manager. The design includes intricate guilloche patterns and text specifying that the bank will pay the bearer five hundred mils. This specific example is encapsulated and certified as having entirely original paper that has not undergone washing, restoration, or mechanical pressing, retaining its natural texture and brilliance from the original printing.

The note is part of the series circulating between 1948 and 1951.
