Period

This rectangular snuff box with canted corners was crafted around 1814 in Geneva, Switzerland. Made of gold and enamel, the object measures 1.8 × 9.9 × 6.7 cm (11/16 × 3 7/8 × 2 5/8 in.) and features ornate painted and chased decoration across its surfaces.

The lid displays a central painted enamel panel depicting a mythological scene with several classical figures, including men and women dressed in drapery and classical attire within an interior setting. This central composition is enclosed by an elaborate chased gold floral and foliate border. Surrounding this frame is black enamel decorated with circular gold medallions, flanked along the upper and lower edges by white enamel borders bearing repeating geometric openwork motifs. The sides of the box continue the decorative program with black enamel bands and gold circular accents.
