Period

circa 1790-1820

Centered on it lies an enamel plaque painted with a picturesque rural hunting scene: on the left, a lady on horseback gallops through woodland scenery accompanied by hounds; a leaping deer stands in the foreground; a church-style building occupies the middle section; on the right rides a gentleman on horseback.

Both sides of the box are adorned with white enamel, while its beveled corners are embellished with white enamel urn motifs accented with gilded details and radial rotary patterns against a blue enamel backdrop. The base is finished in white enamel, enclosed by decorative floral borders in gold and blue enamel. The box bears a sun hallmark, a pseudo-mark used by Hanau-based Frères Jordan (active 1790-1820), and the letter mark "u" is inscribed on the lid.

These snuff boxes are distinguished by refined low-relief carving, graceful corner designs and intricate decorative motifs.
