Period

circa 1900

This large, keyless, hunting-cased pocket watch by Audemars Frères Genève dates to approximately 1900. Crafted from 14k gold, the timepiece features a hunter-style construction with a spring-loaded front cover, a hinged gold cuvette, and a snap-on bezel.

The white enamel dial is complemented by gold hands and a blued steel chronograph hand, featuring Arabic numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial. Technically sophisticated, the watch is powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement equipped with a straight-line lever escapement, a cut-bimetallic balance, a self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator. It includes a column-wheel chronograph mechanism and a minute-repeater function that chimes on gongs, activated by a push-button on the band, with an integrated centrifugal governor.

The case, dial, and movement are all signed by the maker. The watch measures 57 mm in diameter with a thickness of 15.90 mm. Identifiers include movement number 5575, cuvette number 297075, and front cover number 075 817.
