Historical context
Bangladesh Bank describes the first issue banknotes as emergency notes in its first Annual Report, “Subsequently, the currency notes put into circulation from March, 1972, were withdrawn from circulation as these notes, printed on an emergency basis, could not be provided with all the security features needed. They were replaced by new designs of Bangladesh Bank Notes printed in conformity with security requirements.” There were problems associated with counterfeiting with these notes, which may be the reason for describing them as emergency issue.
