This Soviet film poster promotes the 1988 release of the film Commissar (Russian: Komissar). Originally filmed in 1967 at the Gorky Film Studio, the movie was directed by Aleksandr Askoldov based on a short story by Vasily Grossman.

Due to political circumstances during the Khrushchev Thaw, the film was initially suppressed until it was reconstructed and released in 1988 during the period of glasnost. The poster features a striking graphic design with a silhouette background and central imagery including scenes from the film and credits for the director, actors Rolan Bykov and Nonna Mordyukova, and composer Alfred Schnittke. Printed via the offset process, the poster was produced for Sovexportfilm, the Soviet association responsible for the international import and export of cinematic works.

Measuring 110 x 80 cm, the poster reflects the visual promotion associated with the film's international acclaim, including its award at the 1988 Berlin International Film Festival.
