This late 18th-century Dutch tobacco box, crafted in silver in Amsterdam in 1776, features a refined baluster form supported by a circular foot. The object is topped with a pull-off domed lid, which is finished with an urn finial and decorative twin ring handles.

The exterior of the box exhibits ornate, cast and applied ornamentation, characterized by elaborate foliate swags interspersed with classical bust medallions, while the rims are decorated with laurel motifs. The lid further incorporates a chased band featuring a guilloche pattern beneath additional laurel swags. The base of the piece is stamped with full hallmarks, including the Amsterdam town mark, the silver standard mark, the date letter R for 1776, and the maker's mark MC for Matthijs Crayenschot (1714–1796).

Historical documentation on the piece includes an Amsterdam L tax mark from 1795 and a later sterling silver mark applied between 1953 and 1987. The box measures 14 cm in diameter and weighs 642 grams (20.64 ozt).
