English silver baroque spindle pocket watch with overcase, hallmarked London 1769

Period
1769
This English baroque spindle pocket watch, dated to 1769, comes with its original overcase. The timepiece is crafted with a silver case, carrying London hallmarks including the city mark, the striding lion, the year letter 'D' for 1769, and the maker's mark 'WP' for William Plummer.
The watch measures 4.09 cm in diameter and weighs 59.9 grams. It features an enameled dial detailed with Roman numerals for the hours and an outer minute track marked with Arabic numerals, complemented by fleur-de-lys style hands. The interior brass movement is signed 'W[illiam] Beckett London 1901' and is constructed with solid brass plates, a spindle escapement, chain and fusee drive, and profiled movement pillars.
Decorative elements include ornate floral embellishments and an openwork spindle bridge adorned with a mascaron. While the movement was functional during a brief test, the gold plating on the hands is worn, the dial enamel exhibits edge chips, the winding key is a replacement, and the overcase shows dents and signs of age.
