Snuffbox with singing bird automaton is held by Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe (Germany). Description supplied by the holding institution: Jean-Frédéric Leschot (1746–1824), who initially worked with the watchmaker and automaton maker Pierre Jaquet-Droz, produced music boxes with steel tuned teeth very early on. Opening the snuffbox made of engraved sheet silver triggers the spring and musical mechanism – a small bird appears and chirps. The object is considered one of the smallest manufactured "bird boxes". The collection record gives measurements height: 6.4 cm (open); width: 7.5 cm, depth: 4.5 cm, height: 2.7 cm. Published through Europeana; how far this object represents a wider collectible type has not yet been independently verified.
