Record status
Individual type · partial
Banat-type coin is held by Tarii Crisurilor Museum (Romania). Description supplied by the holding institution: obverse: On the obverse appears a human head, with beard and laurel wreath, reproduction of the effigy of Zeus, facing right. The hair is rendered by a curl located above the forehead, by a long, arched lock that starts from above the ear and reaches the neck line, and by a series of straight locks that start from the top of the head and go under the wreath formed of two rows of ovoid ornaments, which continues behind the curl above the forehead through four parallel lines. The ear is represented by a spiral. Below the forehead line, in a pronounced depression, appears the eye: a globule framed by two thick lines joined in an angle, suggesting the eyelids, displaced here from the "orbit". The line of the forehead continues with that of the nose, the lips are masked by "moustaches", the beard is rendered by tufts arranged in two rows with a rope-like appearance appearing here in compact form. The triangular neck ends with a raised, slightly arched line. Beaded circle. The collection record gives measurements diameter: 25.6x26.3; mass: 13.55. Published through Europeana; how far this object represents a wider collectible type has not yet been independently verified.
