Period

c. 1950

This original hand-painted film poster, dating to approximately 1950, represents a unique piece of cinematic graphic design from 20th-century Germany. Executed in the gouache medium on a cardboard substrate, the piece measures 42.8 cm by 68.0 cm.

The composition serves as an "end credits" title card for a children's film. It features a stylized, minimalist illustration of a donkey pulling a cart against a solid, vibrant blue background. Within the cart rests the German word "ENDE" (End), rendered in individual, brightly colored, cutout-style letterforms. The artwork showcases an avant-garde aesthetic common in post-war European film production. The physical condition reflects its age and use, characterized by slight soiling, bumped and creased corners, liquid staining, and diagonal creases in the right half that affect the color fields.

Additionally, the surface exhibits minor paint loss in the upper corners and damage along the left side, typical of historical production materials maintained outside of archival storage.
