Historical context

Unlike the 1901 issue of the 1000-drachma note which commemorated the 60th anniversary of the National Bank of Greece, this banknote was a standard circulation issue. It also has two serial numbers on the obverse, compared to only one on the 1901 issue. A total of 400,000 notes were printed across all dates.
