Issuing entity
Qajar and Pahlavi PersiaThis 100 Toman note was issued in Iran by the Imperial Bank of Persia, with dates recorded from 1924–1932. It belongs to the Qiran (1825-1932) currency system. Issuing authority and period recorded in the catalogue: Reza Shah (1925-1941). It measures 179 × 106 mm and is printed on paper. The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money lists the type as Pick 17. Numista identifies the design as “Nasr-ed-Din shah”.
Obverse: Dark-blue, yellow and brown print. Portrait of Muzaffar al-Din at center-right; oval print with coat of arms at center. Its lettering reads “فقط در ( نام شهر) ادا خواهد شد / تصویر ناصرالدین شاه قاجار / جم تومان / بانک شاهنشاهی ایران / مهر مامور دولت علیه ایران”. Translation given in the catalogue: “Payable only at (city name) Imperial Bank of Iran One Hundred tomans”. Reverse: Red-brown and blue print. Coat of arms (lios with sword) at center. Its lettering reads “THE IMPERIAL BANK OF PERSIA / 100 / ONE HUNDRED TOMANS”.
The note was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company, United Kingdom (1856-1990). Watermark: شیر و خورشید Lion and Sun. Demonetized: Yes. Conflict noted: the catalogue type name refers to Naser al-Din Shah, while the obverse description names Muzaffar al-Din Shah; the portrait should be checked on a specimen. Identification note: match the value, issuing bank, printed date and Pick number together; dates and signature combinations distinguish sub-varieties, which are not separated in this entry. Details follow the Numista catalogue entry and the Standard Catalog reference it cites; they have not been checked against a central-bank archive.
