London Hallmark for 1896

This 18k gold half hunter pocket watch is a refined horological instrument, manufactured by James Hoddell & Co of Coventry. The timepiece features a keyless wind movement, specifically a gilt 3/4 plate English lever calibre, number 2283.

It incorporates a cut and compensated bi-metallic balance with a diamond end stone and a minute repeating complication, indicated by two polished hammers that strike on internal gongs. The white dial is decorated with black Roman numeral hour markers, a black outer minute track, and a subsidiary seconds dial positioned at 6 o'clock, all accented by blued steel double spade hands. The polished gold case is designed with a half hunter cover, which displays a blue Roman numeral chapter on the front, while the back bears a monogram.

A repeat slide is located on the side of the case at the 6 o'clock position. The watch measures 52mm in diameter and carries a London hallmark dating it to 1896, with the case stamped by Fred Thoms.
