This 2003 limited edition Leica MP rangefinder camera outfit was produced to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Leica Historical Society of America (LHSA). The camera features a distinctive grey hammertone finish on the top and bottom plates, complemented by a matching Leicavit M rapid-advance lever and a grey hammertone lens hood.
The outfit includes a retro-styled Leitz Summicron-M ASPH f/2 35mm lens, constructed from chrome on brass to resemble the original eight-element Summicron design. The camera body is engraved with the LHSA logo, as are the Leicavit and lens shade. This specific unit, serial number 3001032, features a unique custom engraving on the rear top plate identifying it as having been presented to Dr. Richard Santee, LHSA President from 2002 to 2004, by the Leica AG factory in Solms, Germany.
The set is accompanied by the original maker’s boxes for the camera body and the Leicavit, representing one of 1,000 units manufactured in this series.
