The Mexican peso, caballito type, also known as the Caballito peso, is a Mexican silver coin issued from 1910 to 1914. Struck during the era preceding the 1918 reduction in the weight and fineness of Mexican silver coinage, the coin functioned within a system established after Mexico defined the peso in 1905 as 0.75 grams of fine gold.

Historical context

The caballito peso was struck between 1910 and 1914, during the years surrounding the Mexican Revolution. Prior to this issue, Mexico had reformed its currency system in 1905 by establishing a gold definition for the peso of 0.75 grams of fine gold, which maintained an exchange rate of 2.00 silver pesos per U.S. dollar from 1905 until 1929. The issue circulated as part of the country's silver coinage before economic pressures prompted the Mexican government to reduce the weight and silver fineness of all silver coins beginning in 1918.
