Period

1847 (inscribed); circa 1805 (host coin)

A British halfpenny struck in about 1805 worn and smoothed, the obverse has been inscribed, J K / DIED and the reverse has been inscribed, JULY 19 / 1847. Holed for wearing - wear around the hole suggests it was worn for some time.

The inscribed date is recorded separately from the date of the underlying coin. The museum records a diameter of 29 mm; the underlying halfpenny is dated about 1805, while the engraving commemorates 19 July 1847.
