Period
1884
This 18k yellow gold demi-hunter pocket watch was produced by Nicole, Nielsen and Co. for the esteemed London watchmaker, Dent, dating to 1884. The watch features a classic demi-hunter case, distinguished by an aperture on the front cover that allows the time to be read without fully opening the watch.
The exterior is enhanced by a decorative red enamel coat of arms on the back. It is equipped with a pendant-wound, pin-set gilt 3/4 plate movement, which is signed by Dent of 61 Strand and 35 Royal Exchange, London. The white porcelain enamel dial is of the single-sunk variety and displays black Roman numerals, also signed with the Dent retail location and address. The piece measures approximately 50.1mm in diameter.
The movement is serial numbered, and the case bears London hallmarks confirming its 18k gold composition and 1884 manufacture date. This high-quality timepiece exemplifies late 19th-century British watchmaking craftsmanship for one of the period's most prestigious retailers.
