Historical context
The Illinois Watch Company was established on 23 December 1870 in Springfield, Illinois, by John C. Adams, John Whitfield Bunn, and fellow financiers. Jacob Bunn Jr. later directed the enterprise from twenty years after its founding until his death in 1926, with the Bunn family surname lending its name to the famous "Bunn Special" railroad watch. In 1927, the firm was sold to the Hamilton Watch Company before ending watch manufacturing in the USA in the mid-1930s.
