This pocket watch is a lever-set model designed for railroad service. The lever-setting mechanism was a safety feature on higher-grade watches that prevented the time from being accidentally changed; setting the time requires opening the front bezel and pulling a small lever, as pulling the crown (winding button) does not engage the setting mechanism.
The watch features a railroad-grade case constructed of gold and silver and is fitted with a lever escapement.
