This gold hunter case pocket watch is accompanied by a key and features a monogram on the exterior of the case. The inner dome of the case back is inscribed: "Presented to Surgeon Major Dawson by the N.C.O's and men of 7th N.Z Contingent as a token of their appreciation of his services in the field S.A. War 26.6.02". It forms part of the Applied Arts and Design collection at Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira.
