Period

circa 1900

A split-seconds chronograph (also called a rattrapante chronograph or double chronograph) is a stopwatch with an additional, second chronograph seconds hand that allows for the measurement of intermediate times without stopping the main timing mechanism.

Normally, the split-seconds hand aligns perfectly with the regular chronograph seconds hand and runs invisibly alongside it. An additional pusher (usually at the 10 o'clock position) stops the split-seconds hand while the main hand continues to run. 2/3 plate movement, Swiss Patent 54714 ("Mécanisme de commande perfectionné de la roue de compteur dans les mouvements à chronographe-compteur" / "Improved mechanism for controlling the counting wheel in chronograph counter movement") lever escapement, screw compensation balance.
