Period

18th century

Oblong tobacco box, enamel on copper, transfer-printed in black. On the top is a print of two fowlers returning from the chase, with a boy going before them carrying two bird cages, and a dog.

Behind them follows a vintager with his basket; others are gathered round a wine press in the distance to the right, whilst two more are seen at the entrance to a garden to the left. On the front is printed a river scene. On the back is another landscape with a church and a village in the middle distance. At one end are huntsmen with hounds pursuing a stag, at the other a landscape with several figures and a low bridge over a stream.

With concave sides and a chased gilt metal mount.
