Period

1882

This Russian gold and enamel jeton commemorates the All-Russian Commercial Art Exhibit of 1882. Crafted from 14-karat yellow-gold, the object features intricate polychrome enamel detailing.

The central medallion showcases the Russian imperial double-headed eagle emblem in relief, set against a vibrant red guilloché enamel background. Surrounding the central element is a circular border of dark green enamel bearing Cyrillic inscriptions in gold lettering. The design is accented with a top architectural crest featuring further enamel work and a suspension loop at the base for attachment. The piece measures 43 by 30 mm and has a weight of 10.8 gross dwt.

The item shows some loss to the enamel surface in a few areas and carries illegible hallmarks. As an example of late 19th-century commemorative Russian jewelry, it serves as a historical record of the 1882 commercial exhibition.
