Individual type · partial

Period

1793

This silver Convention thaler was struck in 1793 under the authority of Friedrich August III, Elector of Saxony, at the Dresden Mint. The coin measures 40 mm in diameter and weighs 27.9 grams.

The obverse features a profile bust of the Elector facing to the right, encircled by the Latin inscription "FRID.AUGUST.D.G.DVX SAX.ELECTOR". The reverse displays the crowned Saxon electoral coat of arms, accompanied by the inscription "X EINE FEINE MARCK" and the year "1793". The "X EINE FEINE MARCK" indicates that the coin was minted according to the 1753 Convention standard, where ten thalers were produced from one fine mark of silver.

Below the arms is the mint master's mark "I.E.C." identifying the Dresden Mint official. The specimen has been cleaned and shows evidence of having been previously mounted with a suspension loop, with visible dark spots on the obverse face.
