Period

circa 1768

The vessel features a distinctive sky-blue ground color, serving as a backdrop for a sophisticated decorative program. The design incorporates elongated oval medallions with gilt edges, which are framed by formal and foliate gilt borders.

Within these panels, the jar is painted alternately with long, hanging floral and leaf motifs and delicate hanging bell-shaped flowers. The matching lid is decorated with a similarly refined style. The piece measures 15.2 cm in height, with a diameter of approximately 9 cm. It bears the iconic Sèvres mark of an interlaced blue monogram 'LL' surrounding the date letter 'P', indicating its year of origin. Additionally, the jar displays the painter's mark attributed to J.-B.

Tandart the elder, along with various incised marks characteristic of Sèvres production. This object represents a fine example of 18th-century French ceramic artistry, showcasing the meticulous gilding and hand-painted floral details for which the Sèvres manufactory is celebrated.
