Period

This object is a small circular counter box accompanied by four gaming counters, made of ivory. The container features a screw-cover, and its exterior is engraved with a small playing-card club pip set within a circular border composed of circles and dots. The engraved details on the box top are filled in with black pigment.

The set includes four circular ivory counters, each engraved on both sides with card suit pips corresponding to the ace, two, three, and four of clubs. Like the decorative engraving on the lid of the box, the card pips displayed on each counter are filled with black. Likely produced in Britain around 1850 by an unknown maker, the set is crafted entirely from engraved ivory. The counter box measures 2.5 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height.
