This gaming counter set comprises a round box, a matching detachable lid, and eight circular counters, catalogued under accession number AP.66:1 to 9-1872. The container and lid are crafted from carved ivory, while the flat counters stored within are made from engraved mother-of-pearl.

The cylindrical ivory box features elaborate exterior relief carving displaying human figures, trees, and architectural pavilion structures encircling the body. The top of the circular lid is ornamented with intricate openwork carving in high relief. The eight iridescent mother-of-pearl counters feature engraved pictorial scenes across their faces, framed by decoratively notched and pierced borders around each disc. The set was produced in China in the mid-nineteenth century, with a recorded date of 1850. The specific maker, carver, or workshop responsible for its manufacture is unknown.
