Period
ca. 1955
This child's wristwatch was manufactured by Timex, likely at their factory in Dundee, Scotland, around 1955. It features a silver-coloured metal body with a curved glass front, measuring 150 mm in length when laid flat, with an 18 mm diameter watch face. The white dial displays red-painted numbers, minute markers, and hands, while a black-and-white portrait of Hopalong Cassidy in a Stetson hat replaces the numeral six. A large, toothed metal winding bevel is positioned on the right side of the case, and the back is engraved with the text "Good luck / from / Hoppy / TIMEX / GREAT BRITAIN" along with "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN".
The watch is fitted with an 11 mm wide black leather strap featuring red perimeter stitching and embossed silver-painted pictograms depicting a cow's head, a Stetson hat, a cactus, and a horseshoe. Its silver-coloured buckle, strap guard, and end tag are embossed with diamond and plant motifs. The timepiece retains its original cardboard packaging, featuring a box lid printed to resemble a log cabin, a folded saddle-shaped display stand mounted on a red base, and a four-page paper instruction and guarantee booklet bearing an image of actor William Boyd.
