This Victorian earthenware tobacco pot or jar, bearing the title 'Fill Your Pipe and Welcome', is an example of Barge Ware or Measham Ware. It features a rich brown glaze, a cylindrical body with a flared rim, and a matching domed lid topped with a decorative finial. The vessel is decorated with applied relief motifs, including floral elements and a central plaque painted in enamels with the welcoming inscription.
The piece was manufactured by W. Mason & Co. in Church Gresley, Derbyshire, between circa 1875 and 1899. It is made of earthenware with applied decoration and enamel painting, and it bears no maker's marks.
