"Strikes" is a 1977 portrait-format political poster created in London. It was produced by screen printing on paper and encapsulated in plastic laminate. Measuring 79.1 cm in height by 54 cm in width, the poster was designed in collaboration between the Grunwick Strike Committee and The Poster Collective (also referenced as the Poster Film Collective) to lobby for support during the Grunwick Strike.
The layout features a prominent black-and-white photographic image depicting crowds of people picketing and clashing with police officers. Within the photographic scene, a trade union banner is highlighted in red. The headline across the top proclaims, "STRIKES A SCHOOL OF WAR, BUT NOT THE WAR ITSELF." Additional explanatory and political text is printed in red. Below the header, text outlines the educational nature of strikes for workers regarding capitalist class dynamics. Across the bottom section of the poster, a closing quote attributed to Lenin reads: "A strike, moreover, opens the eyes of the workers to the nature, not only of the capitalists, but of the government and the laws as well."
