This set of gaming counters consists of moulded plastic discs originally housed in a divided card box. The equipment comprises 36 discs produced in four colours: yellow, red, blue, and green. The discs vary across three distinct sizes: 1 inch, 7/8 inch, and 5/8 inch in diameter.

The counters date from the 1930s to the 1950s and were possibly published and manufactured in England by the Chad Valley Company Limited. The discs feature plain, flat circular surfaces without inscribed text or numbers.

Counts describe this entry’s documentation, not authenticity, rarity or completeness. Photographs may show one specimen; check each caption and licence.

Historical context

The pieces served as gaming or gambling counters, though it has been noted they may also have functioned as tiddlywinks counters due to uneven colour and size groupings. The set accommodates any number of players and was originally kept in a card box split into two compartments, decorated on the outside with two sample cards depicting triggerfish and angelfish.
