Period

1867

This Victorian-era triple-cased pocket watch, manufactured by Edward Prior of London, was specifically designed for the Turkish market. The timepiece features a distinctive white enamelled dial adorned with Turkish numerals, a characteristic stylistic choice for watches exported to the Ottoman region during this period.

The watch utilizes a traditional keywind verge movement, which is signed and numbered 77402. The construction is notable for its triple-cased design, featuring an outer protective case finished in tortoiseshell with pique work inlay and silver studs. The inner cases are crafted from silver, with the assembly hallmarked for William Caleb Scott of London, dating the piece to 1867. The inner casing retains the original Edward Prior paper lining.

Measuring approximately 60mm in diameter, the watch reflects the specialized craftsmanship required for the export market of the 19th century. The dial and glass are intact, while the outer tortoiseshell casing exhibits minor losses to its silver stud decoration and slight surface wear, representative of its age and history as a functional antique horological instrument.
