Record status

Individual type · partial

Period

June 8, 1757

Issued under the Act of Assembly passed on June 8, 1757, this three-pound denomination note is styled after the plates of William Hunter. The banknote is uniface, meaning the printing appears only on one side, and measures 70mm x 60mm.

It features hand-penned signatures falsely attributed to Peyton Randolph and R. C. Nicholas, with the word 'Forged' also written by hand on both the face and the blank back. The note carries the serial number 22560. As a contemporary counterfeit, this piece served as a deceptive substitute in colonial commerce and is recognized as the Newman Plate Note from page 438 of the 2008 5th Edition of The Paper Money of America.

It has been professionally certified as Choice Very Fine-35 by PCGS Banknote and is noted for its lack of negative comments or qualifiers.
