Historical context
This is an early 19th Century English duplex watch that comes in a beautiful gold consular case and matching chain. The case is adorned with fine decorative gold and has an 18 carat open face with reeded middle, pendant and bow. The full plate fire gilt movement is fused with Harrison's maintaining power, and it has a pierced and engraved cock with a large diamond endstone. The watch has a gold engine-turned dial with applied gold Arabic numerals on a matted ground and pierced gilt hands. The plain three-arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring, and brass escape wheel make up the duplex escapement. The back of the watch is protected by a glazed cover with four-color gold floral decoration, and both the back glazed cover and front bezel open with a split button in the pendant. The watch comes with a long gold snake chain and two gold sliders, and a "T" bar with applied gold decoration and a short snake chain and key. This is an attractive watch that is in excellent overall condition and is signed by Thos Mofs Ludgate St London from around 1812. The watch measures 48 mm in diameter and has a depth of 11 mm.
