This gold Linnaeus Medal is the highest award bestowed by the Linnean Society of London, established to honor distinguished scientists in the fields of botany and zoology.

The medal features an obverse design depicting a portrait bust of Carl von Linné facing left, accompanied by the inscription "CAROLVS LINNÆVS." The reverse displays the coat of arms of the Linnean Society of London, supported by a lion and a bird, framed within an ornate cartouche. Below the arms, the medal is engraved with the recipient's name, "KARL VON GOEBEL," and the date "28th MAY 1931." It was presented to the German botanist Karl Immanuel Eberhard von Goebel, a long-serving professor at the University of Munich and director of the Botanical Garden in Nymphenburg. The medal, which comes in its original case, represents a significant mark of scientific achievement. The design of the piece is credited to John Pinches.
