AMUSING JAPANESE IVORY NETSUKE SIGNED TOMOCHIKA 19th Century Lively, humorous and highly detailed depiction of human, animal and demon figures on a boat, likely in parody to the takarabune, or treasure ship.

A clothed monkey pours a drink for its trainer, who has a hand on his head, while a dog and a tengu dressed as warriors read and point to a hand scroll, and two oni fight each other next to a basket of warding beans. Boat with the face of a dragon at the stern and crashing waves underneath. Signed on bottom in an oval reserve. Minor age cracking that blends in with the carving. ** This item is not available for international delivery.
