This is a commemorative bronze medal issued by the Technische Universität 'Otto von Guericke' Magdeburg, presented in its original red grained display case with a silver-coloured hook clasp and red insert.

The medal features partial dark brown enamelling on the field. The obverse displays a high-relief bust of Otto von Guericke (1602-1686), depicted with long hair, moustache, and chin beard, wearing a wide collar with a tasselled cord, accompanied by the inscription 'OTTO VON GUERICKE 1602-1686'. The reverse side depicts the famous Magdeburg hemispheres, a scientific device used by Guericke to demonstrate atmospheric pressure, with the text 'MAGDEBURGER HALBKUGELN' and the university's name, 'TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITÄT OTTO VON GUERICKE MAGDEBURG', inscribed around the edge.

The medal measures 7 cm in diameter and is documented in the 'Monumenta Guerickiana'. Such commemorative issues were produced in greater numbers starting after 1957 by the city of Magdeburg and the university, with production peaking during the 1970s and 1980s.
