Button, silver toggle, Cordoba, 1865-1870
Record status
Individual type · partial
Period
1865-1870
Buttons were rarely sewn directly on to the clothing. Flat buttons like this were worn by men throughout Spain in rows on their waistcoats although they are now considered typical of Salamanca.
Most were made of brass or nickel, but this example is silver, as is shown by the mark on the end of the toggle bar. It was bought for the museum by Senor Riano for nine pence in Cordoba in 1871. Flat silver octagonal toggle button, with an engraved, and rocker-engraved, floral pattern on the front. The button is attached to a bar of thick wire, with central loop soldered on, by an oval link.
