This bronze medallion represents the obverse of a commemorative work produced in France in 1918. Designed by the French sculptor and artist Henri Emile Allouard (1844–1929), the circular medal measures 6.1 cm (2 3/8 in.) in diameter and features low-relief figurative sculpture executed in bronze.

The obverse scene depicts a pietà-like composition showing a seated woman supporting the body of a fallen soldier in her lap. Architectural elements such as damaged structures and a spire appear in the low-relief background. Along the upper perimeter, raised lettering spells out "LA FEMME PENDANT LA GUERRE" (woman during the war), while the lower portion displays a scroll banner inscribed "SACRIFICE" resting on foliage. The work is signed with the inscription "H. Allouard 1918."
