Period

1800s

This object is a book cover produced in India during the nineteenth century, dating to the 1800s. The piece measures 14 by 22.9 centimetres (5 1/2 by 9 inches) and is classified as a textile. It was crafted using a brocade weaving technique designated as "kimkhwab," constructed from a combination of silk, cotton, and gold thread.

The rectangular textile panel features an ornamental design of repeating floral motifs arranged in aligned rows across a golden-brown ground. Each motif displays a stylized upright blossom detailed with pink or reddish tones and woven metallic thread, set above small leaves. The fabric displays visible thread ends and frayed edges along its borders, consistent with a loose textile section. No inscriptions, marks, or individual artisans are recorded in the museum documentation.
