Historical context

Dia, also known as Diospolis, was an ancient port city in Bithynia on the Pontus Euxinus in Asia Minor, situated near modern Akçakoca in Turkey. According to Marcian of Heraclea, it was located 60 stadia east of the mouth of the Hypius river between the Sangarius River and Heraclea Pontica. This bronze issue belongs to the Hellenistic period, when the city produced coins bearing its local epigraph.
