This is an original German commemorative badge from the 1933 Trier Pilgrimage. This is a religious artifact from a significant Catholic event that took place in the first year of the Third Reich era.

The badge is shaped as a stylized cross with flared arms, known as a canty cross, and has a bronze-colored finish. The center features a medallion depicting the "Heiliger Rock" or Holy Robe, the seamless garment of Jesus, which is the most famous relic housed in the Trier Cathedral. The text around the medallion reads "TRIER 1933". The reverse side is marked "GES. GESCH." which is an abbreviation for "Gesetzlich Geschützt," meaning the design was legally protected or copyrighted.

It is also marked with "MENDEN," the location of the manufacturer. Historical Significance: This badge commemorates the "Heiliger Rock-Wallfahrt" (Holy Robe Pilgrimage) that took place in Trier from July to September 1933. This was a massive religious event, the first time the relic had been publicly displayed since 1891, drawing millions of Catholic pilgrims. Its historical importance is magnified by its timing. The pilgrimage began just three days after the Nazi regime signed the "Reichskonkordat" with the Vatican.

This piece is therefore not a political or military badge, but a purely religious one from a major Christian event that occurred at the very dawn of the Third Reich, representing a unique intersection of faith and history during a tumultuous period.
