Rotary key is held by Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe. Museum description: Keys with a bit bending at a right angle belonged to so-called bolt, lift-and-slide, or drop-bolt locks.
These consisted of two interlocking bolts, one toothed and one correspondingly negatively perforated. They were unlocked by lifting one of the bolts with the key and pushing both apart. On this key, however, the tip of the bit has been bent secondarily. It belonged to a warded lock with a torsion spring mechanism. The key is an old or stray find from the Baden Limes area whose exact findspot can no longer be located.
The museum record gives measurements length: 7.7 cm, height: 0.9 cm, width: 3.1 cm. These details come from the holding museum's own record; how far this object represents a wider collectible type has not yet been independently verified.
