Period

19th-century

A mignonette carriage clock is a highly collectible, miniature category of the traditional 19th-century portable travel clock. Derived from the French word mignon (meaning small, dainty, or sweet), "mignonette" specifically denotes carriage clocks that stand under 4.25 inches tall with the handle fully raised.

This true mignonette measures between 2.25" and 3" high. Despite the small size, they maintain traditional carriage clock features, including a rectangular brass or gilt case, a hinged carrying handle, a top-mounted glass window to view the platform escapement, and beveled glass panels on all sides.
