Period

circa 1725

This George IV period bracket clock features an elaborate mahogany case in a distinctive Gothic lancet-arch style. The clock stands at 56cm high, 27cm wide, and 19cm deep, supported by brass bun feet.

The case is richly decorated with a pineapple finial atop a gadroon-carved cushion superstructure, cluster columns with finials at the front angles, and a recessed panel displaying stylized anthemion carving. Both sides incorporate rosette-decorated brass ring handles and lancet-shaped windows with Gothic tracery overlays. The interior houses a five-pillar twin fusee bell-striking movement with an anchor escapement regulated by a half-seconds pendulum, mounted on an engraved backplate.

The seven-inch cream-painted circular dial features Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands, and is signed "Dutton, London." The dial is set behind a hinged, convex-glazed cast brass caddy-moulded bezel. A paper label inside the case identifies it as retailed by George G. Cocks of Bristol. The rear of the clock includes a lancet-shaped glazed door, showcasing fine craftsmanship throughout its exterior and mechanical design.
