Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Order of Saint George of the Reunion, Grand Master's Breast Star
Record status
Individual type · partial
Period
1829
This exceptional breast star belongs to the Order of Saint George of the Reunion of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The star is constructed of silver, featuring a separately applied, red-enameled cross and a meticulously crafted, three-part central medallion made of gold and enamel.
The medallion depicts Saint George on horseback slaying the dragon, encircled by a blue-enameled band. The reverse of the star is fitted with a pin for wearing and bears the maker's signature, "AUG=to Heider di DRESDA Fe: NAPOLI 1829." The craftsmanship is noted for its sculptural quality and fine detail. While the piece shows signs of minor wear and small chips to the blue enamel consistent with historical usage, it remains a highly significant piece of Italian military order insignia.
Traditionally, the Grand Master's version with sceptres was reserved exclusively for the King of the Two Sicilies.
