Period
Late 18th century
This late 18th-century mantel clock features an ormolu case, characterized by its ornamental brass and gilded details. The clock is surmounted by a prominent brass carrying handle atop a raised section, which includes decorative sound frets on either side.
Four cast brass pineapple finials frame the top of the case, while simple columns adorn the sides. The front incorporates a glazed observation window, allowing a view of the pendulum. The clock sits on four turned feet and features additional brass sound frets on the side panels. The 4-inch white enamel dial displays black Roman numerals for the hours and finely painted Arabic numerals for the minutes, complemented by gilt brass hands.
The dial is signed by Imbert Laine. The internal twin-train movement operates with an external count wheel mounted to the backplate, which is also signed by the maker. Measuring 28 cm in height, 18 cm in width, and 10 cm in depth, the piece reflects classic late 18th-century horological craftsmanship.
