Period

ca. 1903

A postcard depicting three scenes: In the first a woman enters a restaurant and is met by a young boy who proffers her an asparagus spear bent at one end. She waves him away saying 'That's not much use to start with young man.' The second scene shows a woman at table with a man who offers her a thick straight spear of asparagus and she says: 'Excellent with white sauce.' In the third scene a woman is arranging her hat in the mirror while an elderly man offers her a wilting spear of asparagus. She says: 'Shrivelled like that? Its time is over, my dear.....'

It was acquired in 1960 by E.J. Dingwell.
