Spoon, cast chased silver, parcel-gilt tuquoise, floral decoration, Tibet, 19th century

DocumentedSupported by at least one credible specialist source.

Record status

Individual type · partial

Period

19th century

Spoon of cast and chased silver, parcel-gilt and inset with a bead of turquoise. Concave bowl in the form of an acuminated circle, with flat straight stem and handle moulded with the Cintamani-emblem rersting on an open lotus.

The stem has a scale-motif and a flower with turquoise centre, and the bowl has a conventional flower and laef device in its upper third. This is a typical Tibetan spoon with a lobed bowl. As this spoon is made of silver, carefully chased with a pattern and set with a turquoise, it was clearly intended for use on special occasions.
